ABOUT SELF DEFENSE

Self defense is everything we do to protect and take care of ourselves. It is our right to be safe, but often that "right" is taken away from us. It becomes our own responsibility to protect ourselves. The first hurdle in protecting ourselves is to believe that we are worth fighting for. We often protect and fight for everyone around us, but cease to fight back when it is for ourselves. No one is safe until every individual is safe. Taking care of yourself first is an important step towards creating a safer environment for all.

By learning self defense, we give ourselves choices in our lives. There is no guarantee that if you learn self defense, you will be safe. What it can offer is a variety of choices and a heightened awareness of yourself and your surroundings. In self defense we learn to use our verbal and physical skills to fight and protect ourselves, as well as learn to trust our instinct and understand prevention and safety strategies. Self defense is not just a physical reaction to a physical attack. Being conscious of your health, practicing safer sex, wearing comfortable clothing are all examples of self defense. Self defense is a cycle of prevention, avoidance, assertiveness, confrontation, fighting back, finding support, healing, then back to prevention.

Learning self defense is doing what is best for you and making choices based on your needs and safety. You know best how to protect yourself. Ruckus is here to bring that out of you. Join us.
